Hi there!
26 Seasons was born in a small Wellington garage in 2017, initially growing microgreens. Even though our focus has shifted to growing strawberries, when we first started we knew two things - we wanted to produce the best-tasting produce for chefs and home cooks alike, but we wanted to do it without taking too much from our land. So, mixing a lot of Kiwi ingenuity with plenty of research and expert advice, we are proud to say the result is sustainable farming and business practices that mean we can now grow strawberries year-round without any compromise to taste and distribute our products with minimal impact on Mother Nature.
We do not use any soils, approximately 90% of our water is recycled and, our packaging is recyclable. Our indoor controlled environment farm is in Foxton, New Zealand, supplying the North Island with freshly grown strawberries, thereby reducing food miles.
But we aren't stopping there - we are always challenging ourselves to find innovative and sustainable solutions for the love of our planet.
What Are Microgreens?
When a seed starts to grow, we say it sprouts or germinates. That first growth (or microgreen) is more flavourful and nutrient dense than the mature plant. If we harvest that first growth before it gives way to the plant itself we can enjoy all of those nutrients in unique and delicious ways.
Indoor vertical farmed microgreens are for nourishment, nature and bursting with flavour. Delicate to the eye, soft to the touch but packed with goodness, our microgreens offer up to 100x more nutrients than mature plants.
It’s The Smartest Way To Eat
Our Indoor Vertical Farm
We believe in local production to supply local markets. We are one of the first indoor vertical farm producers with our flagship berry farm in Foxton. Our innovative farming methods are paving the way to a new future of food production in our country. All of our berries are grown hydroponically in a controlled environment which lets us manage the impact on the planet. No soil means no soil erosion or nutrient leaching. We use natural pollination methods and recycle approximately 90% of our water. We use advanced integrated pest management techniques and introduce natural predators to control pests. You can be assured we only use non-organic sprays as a last resort.
How To Look After Your Microgreens
Handy Care Tips
These are living plants (the freshest you can get) so need a little bit of love and care for you to enjoy them at their best.
Eating them straight away? They’re good to go, just harvest with scissors by cutting 1-2cm from the roots.
Once fully harvested, discard the roots and grow mat, these microgreens are not designed to regrow.
Storage - Our microgreens prefer room temperature, so keep them on the bench or windowsill.
Watering - Simply submerge the bottom of the watering tray in a sink with water for 20-30 seconds, once a day. Avoid watering the leaves.
Recycling - The wool grow mat is compostable. The tray is fully curbside recyclable.
